Why? Why?

Posted by adrian370 on August 2, 2008

It is so hard to commit yourselves to any thing that is positive? Persons who commit themselves are very tired with the others who do not display same . An organisation can only progress if it’s staff/worker/member produce. This must start with the leaders and they must display these qualities and it will filter to one and all.Guys if really like the organisation we take part in  netball/basketball we must do a better job as we are aiming for excellence in what is our task.

Players will have to pay the officials at the game.  Demario Prescod has been asked by the Coach to get the team together.

On Sun June 6 between 8.00am to 9.30am all players interested in playing under 21 are asked to meet on the Checker Hall bball court for the 1st practice session.  This will be followed by the second session on Wed June 9 at 7.30pm.

Braves Senior Netball Team Plays 2nd Friendly Game Against Braves Basketballers

Posted by adrian370 on June 10, 2008

The senior netball team had their second friendly match against the basketballers and what an exciting match it was. The guys managed to hold off again the girls one more time and come away with the win.

These matches are part of an effort to assist in club development and also is very important to the girls preparation for their knockout game on the 21st June 2008. The girls are a quest to bring home the gold after placing second in their division in the Barbados Netball Association season 2008.

Looking good ladies, just some more work needs to be done

Andrew Gibbs
Adrian Brome
Demario Prescod

Belfield Line Up
Shawn Best
Michael Gibbs

Basil Weatherhead

Game overview
First quarter Braves Lead 14- 04
Second quarter Braves Lead 30-18
Third quarter Braves Lead 52-32
Fourth quarter Braves Lead 81-40.

Braves took control of the game from the jump ball and lead from the beginning to the end. The Belfield team was a very young team with a few experience players but they were out rebounded and just could not get pass the aggressive defensive played by Braves. Coach Hutson had the chance to run the younger guys within the Braves team. It was a bit disappointing for Braves team because all of their players were not there.

Top scorers for Belfied were Basil Weatherhead and Russell Harper who scored 10 points each. Braves top scorers were Damain Leacock with 18 points, Michael Toppin 14pts, Andrew Gibbs 12pts and Ron Taitt who was recovering from the flu with 11pts.

Coaches comments:

1st and 2nd quarter Belfield players worked the ball around and broke the defense very often. this shows us the areas we need to work on and also the player who were not performing their roles in the defense . Adjustments were made in the 3rd and 4th quarter and this arrested the Belfield offensive charge and they had difficulty in scoring consistently. Our fast breaking needs alot more work but an effort was made to get it going in the 4th quarter. The players seemed to be more comfortable playing the half court game and continually broke the Belfield defense down and scored 22 points in the 3rd quarter and 29 in the 4th quarter.

Basketball Practice Game – NewBury vs Arawak Cement Braves

Posted by Corey Graham 2.0 on May 24, 2008

Arawak Cement Braves Line up
Roland Field
Adrian Brome
Damain Leacock
Karim Willins
Andi Daniel
Micheal Toppin
Shane Worrell
Corey Graham

The game was a long hard one with time just seeming to go on forever with 8 players against a long deep Newbury bench and it was physically demanding for the Braves players. However braves were still able to stay in the game. The highlight of the match was definitely the defense, at time the defense was tight and Coach Huston said it was looking very promising. There is still a lot of work ahead of Braves to be Game ready for the season starting June 1.

Comments from Coach Hutson -

It was really not the type of game we behavior we expected for a practice game with the fouls and taps. I was pleased to see that Braves players we able to stick to basketball and handled themselves pretty well. It was an even game, Newbury had the better of us the earlier half, but once we made the adjustments we were able to keep the game pretty even.
Overall the game was a good chance to show the things that we need to work on as a team. The game showed that Checker Hall Braves game has many dimensions.

There was no official score after the game.
