Arawak Braves club has always be been blessed with people who come around and assist the club in many ways. We learned that we have in our team a gifted website developper who before the wink of an eye had a site for the team. Now we have the return to the club of Robin Austin who is well known to the club. He is again assisting the team by taking the stats at all the games which is then placed on our webstie. ON BEHALF OF THE BASKETBALL TEAM AND MANAGEMENT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU AND HOPE THAT WE WILL WORK TOGETHER FOR A LONG TIME. GOD BLESS.

ARAWAK CHECKER HALL BRAVES CEMENTS FIRST GAME WIN.
Posted by coachmarius on June 26, 2008
Belfield Bball team left the YMCA last night wondering what hit them. To anyone watching the game it would have appeared that this was going to be a close game. Both teams committed many unforced errors and, in the case of Arawak Braves, took a number of poor shots.
The starting five was Andi Daniel, Damian Bovell, Shane Worrell, Ron Taitt and Roland Fields. They started very slowly with the #2 and #3 very reluctant to attack the basket. They seemed not to know when to take the shot and in some cases how to take the shot. Defensively they were ok, but 9 of the games 14 turnovers occurred in this quarter. This quarter ended with Braves scoring 8 points and Belfield scoring 6.
The second quarter started with 4 new players being introduced. Adrian Brome, Andrew Gibbs, Oral Richmand and Chadd Greaves entered the game. Immediately the offense improved. Andrew, Adrian and Oral combined to keep the offense flowing. the defense though started to develop some cracks. This was mainly because the three top defenders were looking and defending the wrong areas. It is good to note that this was Arawak Braves most productive offensive quarter with 22 points being scored but it was also Belfield’s biggest quarter as they scored 14 points. The half time score was Arawak Braves 30, Belfield 20.
Then the silent killers struck. A combination of youth and experience quietly destroyed the spirit and the game of the opponents. With Adrian, Damian Bovell, Demario, Andrew and Roland starting they quickly got into stride. They hustled on defense more and when they got the ball they moved quickly into transition. The offense looked a lot more in control with the ball being passed to the correct areas and good shots being taken. The fast break was used to good effect with Demario out on the break. Belfield found the going very difficult and they started to quarrel among themselves. In this quarter Arawak Braves scored 17 points to Belfield’s 10. Game score Arawak Braves 47 Belfield 30.
This momentum was carried into this quarter although changes were made with Andy, Jason and Karim coming in. The defense created the offense more often now and Belfield became less and less competitive. When the Coach went to a smaller team halfway in the quarter the Belfield team just couldn’t find an answer. Arawak Braves scored 17 and Belfield 9 in this quarter. Game scores Arawak Braves 64 Belfield 39.
Every player had a chance to wet their feet in this game. We will have challenging games later and I would hope that we remain calm and poised in the face of pressure. Well done team. Lets develop the killer instinct men. WE CAN BE COMPETITIVE. BELIEVE IT. To see your stats go to “basketball” click on ”more on basketball team” Look on the left side of the screen for “roster” click on any players name and their stats will be shown.
Arawak Braves scored 29 of 66 Field goal attempts 43.9%. 1 0f 4 three point attempts 25% and 3 of 14 free throws attempted 21.4%. There was a total of 11 offensive rebounds and 28 defensive rebounds. There were 21 turnovers, 14 assists, 17 steals, and 5 block shots.
Andrew Gibbs scored 16 points and Adrian Bromes scored 14 points. Damian Bovell held 25.6% of the rebounds while Adrian Brome held 20.5% . Karim Willins had 5 assist and 3 steals. Adrian Brome had 4 blocks and damian Bovell 1.

BABA UPDATE: DIVISION 3 LEAGUE STARTING AFTER 3 LONG MONTHS.
Posted by coachmarius on June 23, 2008
This League contains the most teams in the BABA competitions. As usual if four of the twenty four teams have submitted referees then alot have. The reality is that twelve officials (referees) cannot service the 182 games that must be played in this division and include the Intermediate, Ladies and the Premier. The result is that we have to wait until they have completed some of these other divisions before we can play. This mean that we are playing when these referees are tired and will have to put up with some tired officials. As was evident in our KO game. Trust me it is not going to get better. It is not easy for them either. Some officiate two games every day sometimes. I know that if i had hold practice sessions everyday i would not get good attendance from the players. So we can appreciate their efforts. So let us just go and play some ball and leave the referees alone.
There are two zones of 14 teams. North Zone and South Zone.
The North Zone: Checker Hall Braves, Grazettes Nets, Belfield, Challengers, Combine Schools, Deacons Fastbreaks, Royals, Cougars, Jackson, Patriots, Lakers, City Ballers, Royals and Police Sports Club.
The South Zone: Wolverines, BDF, Senators, Combine Faith, Newbury, Markethill, Suns, Jayhawks, Homeseekers, Pinelands, Clapham Bulls, St Johns, Warriors, and Spartans.
THESE ARE ARAWAK BRAVES FIRST TWO GAMES.
WED 25TH JUNE 2008 ARAWAK BRAVES VS BELFIELD…….6.30PM……..YMCA.
SAT 29TH JUNE 2008 ARAWAK BRAVES VS PATRIOTS……6.30PM……..WILDEY GYM.
Try hard to come to the games early. The team will be picked on Tuesday 24th June and placed on this website 12pm. GOOD LUCK MEN.

UNDER 21 GET READY TO GOOOOOO
Posted by coachmarius on June 18, 2008
The BABA under 21 tournament is going to be played in July. If we are to send a team in this competition a couple of things must be in place. (1) Players playing third division just have to keep their subs up to date. (2) Players not in club will have to pay a fee to be determined. (3) Players must attend practice sessions and must attend all games. (4) Players will have to pay the officials at all games. With 8 players the total will be $2.50 per game. Without subs and fees paid up there will be no uniforms issued. This is another opportunity for our young players see and interact with other teams in Barbados and gain some much needed experience. ALL INTERESTED PLAYERS ARE ASKED TO MEET ON THE BBALL COURT ON WED 18 JUNE. Thank you.

OOPS ARAWAK CHECKER HALL LETS THE FIRST ONE SLIP.
Posted by coachmarius on June 16, 2008
Arawak Checker Hall Braves lost their first game of the season 55 to 57 to BDF at the YMCA. In a closely fought game the Arawak Braves never took control of any area of the game. Too many of the players were nervous and this was responsible for a lot of unforced errors. At the end of the first quarter the score was 14 to Arawak Braves 15 to BDF. There were long periods of good defensive play but this was not followed always by strong offensive play. They played just good enough to end the second quarter 29 to 31. The third quarter started off very promising as the the team intensified their defense and got a number of fast breaks. What was most encouraging was the fact that substitutions were being made and the quality of play did not suffer. at the end of the third quarter Arawak Braves 45 to BDF 39. The last quarter was where, for a short moment it all went wrong. It must be said that we fought all the way. We even had five chances close to the end to force the game into overtime but the ball did not drop. The final score was 55 to Arawak Braves and 57 to BDF. This was later changed to 59 by the officials. For Arawak Braves Roland Fields Led with 19 points,Shane Worrell scored 11 points and Adrian Brome scored 14 points. Arawak Braves team score 14 points in 1st quarter,15 points in the 2nd quarter,16 points in the 3rd quarter and 10 points in the 4th quarter. Barbados Defence Force scored 15 in the 1st qrt,16 in th 2nd qrt,8 in the 3rd qrt and 18 in the 4th qrt. It is not the end of the world men. We will review this game and try to correct our many errors for the other games. LIFT YOUR HEAD UP.

COACH HUTSON SAYS WHY CHECKER HALL TEAM SHOULD DO WELL
Posted by coachmarius on June 16, 2008
After three postponements Checker Hall Braves finally played their first game. It was against a very big Barbados Defence Force team with a number players well over 6ft. I know that you can prepare as much as you want but you are never really fully prepared for the the first experience. That was the case on Saturday night. A few things occurred that we will have to deal with as a team. Let me say though that it felt good to coach the team that night. I think this is a great combination of players and i believe that with good team work sprinkled with some hard work and with more belief in ourselves this could be the start of a championship team. I must compliment all the players for their effort to attend our practice sessions which started in October 2007 and to the younger players who i am very proud of. It is good to see that youth and experience can blend so perfectly. I think we have every reason to want to have a successful season. We will have issues every now and then, but lets deal with them maturely. I think we are on the right track as a group. Our club have been blessed with a number of new members. Along with Andrew Gibbs, Ron Taitt, Damian Bovell, Damian Leacock, Demario Prescod, Chadd Graves, and Oral Richmand we had Roland Fields, Andi Daniel, Jason Jordan and Corey Graham coming into our family to join the old reliable Adrian Brome, Shane Worrell, Karim Willins and Michael Toppin. Corey has added a new dimension to our experience, he has developed a superb website which will not only improve the communication in the club and among the teams but it will be one more reason why a Company should sponser Checker Hall Braves. Thanks team for your patience now let US GO AND MAKE THIS SEASON OUR BEST EVER.

The senior netball team had their second friendly match against the basketballers and what an exciting match it was. The guys managed to hold off again the girls one more time and come away with the win.
These matches are part of an effort to assist in club development and also is very important to the girls preparation for their knockout game on the 21st June 2008. The girls are a quest to bring home the gold after placing second in their division in the Barbados Netball Association season 2008.
Looking good ladies, just some more work needs to be done
